About us

Established in 2009, our journey began when the three local churches in Sea Mills united with a shared vision: to transform a disused bus stop and toilet block into the vibrant and welcoming Café on the Square.

Since then, SMCI has continued to grow as a charity. In 2014, we revitalised an old council allotment site, turning it into a thriving community garden and shared growing space. Over the past few years, we have also taken on the management of the community space within the Methodist building on the Square, providing a hub for activities and events.

Alongside our flagship projects, we run a variety of smaller initiatives that bring people together, including our Community Club coffee morning on Tuesdays, a Friendship Café for women on Wednesday afternoons and annual events such as Apple Day and the Community Christmas celebrations.

We are a small staff team, and our work is only made possible by the incredible support of over 50 local volunteers. Whether they are garden diggers, cake bakers, latte makers, or generous financial contributors, we rely on the hard work, creativity, and generosity of people in and around Sea Mills & Coombe Dingle.

Together, we are building a stronger, more connected community.

Sea Mills Community Initiatives is a charitable company limited by guarantee (charity registration number 1136611). We support and serve those who are vulnerable, either because of age - both young and old - ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.

Staff and Trustees

SMCI has a Board of Directors that have overall responsibility for planning, implementing and monitoring the activities of the charity. There is a wider support group that includes other key individuals from the community.
